Wireless Tag Range:

ISPs will typically use wireless tags with an embedded antenna. The wireless tags could be active or passive. The wireless range of these tags vary greatly.

To detect these types of wireless tags, the detector has to be near the wireless tag. A suspected crime scene could be wirelessly searched by passing the detector against searched items. Carpets, clothing, shoes, grass, and dirt could be searched in this way.

This search method is relatively quick when compared to the speed of a conventional forensic search. Wireless detectors are relatively inexpensive and are dropping in price as wireless technology like RFID gains acceptance.

Little training is required to operate the detector. Lightly trained police and volunteers could sweep through likely crime scenes searching for wireless ISP evidence. This greatly increases the police's ability to have more places searched and to have them searched quickly.
